Take a Stanza” Youth Empowerment Poetry Event to be Held at Collingwood Public Library

Collingwood, ON – Art is not just a canvas; it’s a platform for transformation, and poetry can ignite change. This event is being held on April 24th at the Collingwood Public Library from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. “Take a Stanza” is a collaborative effort between Barrie’s inaugural Black Poet Laureate, Ty the Poetess, and Collingwood’s pioneering Indigenous Poet Laureate, Jillian Morris. Through their distinct voices and shared commitment to amplifying marginalized perspectives, Ty and Jillian will guide youth attendees through exploring the intersection between art and advocacy.

From the captivating rhythm of spoken word, “Take a Stanza” promises an evening of inspiration and empowerment. Youth will embark on a journey of self-discovery, discovering the boundless potential of their own voices in shaping the world around them. “Poetry asks you to dig in order to plant a seed. It can open youth up to a variety of seeds they didn’t know they

carried. And then, growth.“ adds Jillian.

Join us at the Collingwood Public Library on April 24th as we discover the resilience, creativity, and advocacy untaped in youth through poetry. This event is made possible through the Town of Collingwood Arts & Culture grant and the passion of the Collingwood YMCA and Making Change. Admission is free, and all youth are welcome to participate in this transformative experience.
