Goodbye to Michèle Newton, Chair & Co-founder

It is with heart-felt gratitude that we announce that Michèle Newton has made the difficult decision to step away from Making Change. This decision, although earnest was very hard for her but we all come to those times in our lives when new horizons need to be chased. We are grateful to her for the foundation that has been built and we are inspired to continue sparking conversations around diversity & inclusion in our communities.

During Black History Month, 7 communities across Simcoe County welcomed the Mosaic of Black Culture – A Family Event. This interactive event featured live steel pan music, a make your own steel pan craft and an overview of Black History from a local Canadian perspective. Thank you to grants from Alectra Utilities, City of Orillia, City of Barrie and the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. It’s because of this generosity that we were able to bring this event to so many communities.
Making Change in Our Community
Making Change in Our Schools
2023 has been our 3rd year bringing the Art Engagement Project into our schools in Simcoe County. We have had the chance to change the narrative through the arts for almost 1000 students in Simcoe County. Our artist Mentors bring thoughtful conversations that encourage students to create expressions of positive change through art. The Art Engagement Project allows students to explore how the impact of anti-Black racism has had on the world around us, and then reflect on how they can make positive change within their schools, homes and communities.

Website Launch Date

We are extremely excited to announce that our updated website is going LIVE Wednesday May 10! New content, easier to navigate and new features.
